Echo Beach
Echo beach is one of the centers of surfing in Canggu. The waves on the beach can be pretty hard. Therefore, they are not for beginners. However, some intermediates do surf here on the gentler side, but mostly the area is for expert surfers who have been in this game for a long time. The Echo beach has been divided into three parts; left the beach area, middle area, and the right area or the river mouth. You can choose a surging spot according to your liking. These areas are usually very crowded, and you may have to watch out while you are surfing.
Batu Bolong
Batu Bolong is located near the Old man's and is one of the leading learning centers for surfing in Canggu. They have decent surfing schools that will help you learn the basics of surfing and will teach you how to surf on gentle waves so that you can finesse your paddle and learn how to appear.
When you are done with surfing school, you can find a beginner's area to the North, where you can surf without any external help. To the South, you will be able to find bigger waves that are for intermediates or professionals. However, you should be careful while surfing here as there have been many accidents in the area.
Berawa
Berawa is mostly for professionals or intermediates. The wave usually breaks at the shore. The ways at the Berawa beach, which are also known as Barwa, typically go left and right. The best swell can be found up close to the Southwest area. Surfing here works best on a low tide. If you want to surf here, the best movement would be from middle to low. Surfers say that Berawa offers a mellow surfing experience, and the surf is very consistent. If you want to get peaceful surf with a few people on each, Berawa might be your way to go.
Other Places to Surf in Canggu
There are many other places to surf in Canggu. You can go South of Berawa and will find beautiful beaches such as Batu Belig, which is known to surprise you at its medium swell. Many other places around the island will offer you waves straight from paradises such as Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Sanur, and Kerama.
Best time to go surfing
Surfing is always an option when in Bali. This is because the weather throughout the year remains moderate, making the water temperature suitable for surfing. Similarly, the breeze is moderate, as well. Even though the surfing conditions may differ during the dry and the rainy season, the ideal time to go surfing in Canggu would be the dry season which is from May to September, during this time the waves are straight out of your imagination and will carry you with no difficulty.
Dangers of Surfing in Canggu
There are no serious hazards of surfing in Canggu. Sharks and other aquatic animals that bite or sting usually stay away from the area. Make sure you don’t break the fall with your face as you may not see some lava rocks. There may be some high currents, make sure you don’t surf when the water is high tide. The water of the ocean can be polluted after heavy rainfall. Make sure you don’t surf during that time as you may get an infection.
