Chamonix

One of the largest ski resorts in France, Chamonix is located just over an hour from Geneva, and it is considered as the "Ski Capital of the World".

Chamonix Valley has an excellent ski lift and bus system, allowing access to all the above ski areas. A whole area lift pass would be a good idea as it will give you the opportunity to enter in a variety of slopes with an incredible mixture of ski and snowboard possibilities, whether you are looking for some nice long slopes, forest trails, free ride or off-piste skiing.

The beginners will find their ski legs at Le Brevent which begins just above the town and climbs to more than 8,000 feet. Les Houches, Le Tour and La Flegere are the perfect spots for beginners and intermediates as well.

Les Grands Montets is the most popular area suitable for the intermediate and the more advanced skiers.

Apart from skiing, explore the old town centre of Chamonix that will inspire you with its narrow, pedestrianize streets. The main attraction that brings tourists to this picturesque town is Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe at 4810m. At the top of the Aiguille du Midi, you'll find ""Step into the Void"", one of Chamonix's most recently added attractions. You literally step into a glass-sided box with views of Mont Blanc to your left and a 1000m drop under your feet.

Aprés-ski choices are various and you may find everything you may need. Have a drink in Chambre Neuf to jazz or in the Maison des Artistes. If you are interested in late night walks then the Rue des Moulins is ideal for you.
